• Give the participants a topic

  • They should quickly write something, whatever first pops into their head

  • Find five phrases or sentences which make sense of the piece, which even remain coherent without the context of the whole piece

  • Now choose one sentence/phrase to keep that context

  • Create a movement for each of these words

  • Tie these together by ‘melting’ from one movement to the next, put them on a loop, doing them over and over

  • Explore the way each movement is performed – slow, fast, stretched out, small

  • Create a series – 1 round small, 1 round stretched out, or saying the words out loud, etc.

  • This is a quick way to create text and movement which can be developed and polished; the group can do the movements all together by learning each other’s movements

  • Some pupils may be more comfortable working in smaller groups without performing to the whole class. When the pieces are shown, there are different rules for how this can be done: all at the same time, in groups, or one at a time, each person starting at the end of the first round of the last person, if it’s a particularly bold group
